Our History

We were the first Committee to be born on the territory of the Municipality of Segni. The Neighborhood Committee called “Piazza Risorgimento – derèto la Mola” came to light on a warm summer evening, while the residents were working together at the Corpus Domini Infiorata and found themselves sharing the same thoughts: the strong union, the spirit of sacrifice, the identity of the group, and their collaboration in the completion of the floral carpet have led to the birth of the idea of a committee. This one, on behalf of the citizens, should be speaking with the institutions, as a resource and not an enemy, and should become a speaker for the defence of the neighbourhood: it will promote social, environmental, sporting, and cultural initiatives to positively affect the well-being of the inhabitants of the community through their active participation; it will bring the residents’ needs and requests to public institutions for the defence of the environment, for the promotion of intergenerational, social and intercultural exchange, for the creation of common spaces and services that favour sociality as a moment of aggregation and comparison for citizens, for the rebirth of the city through the neighbourhood committee, and the demand for services for a better quality of life. A small change can lead to bigger ones.  On December 2nd, 2013, after the promoters signed the Deed of Incorporation and the related Statute, the Committee was born. Thus, began the adventure of a group of volunteers who invested their time, economic resources, and professionalism into the project. Over the years, we were given many satisfactions by collaborating with institutions, public entities, and associations that work in the area, and by doing so, consolidating ourselves as a valuable, important, and reliable reality, but above all, a promoter of innovative initiatives never seen in the area. The Committee particularly works towards the protection and enhancement of nature and the environment and culture, historical, and artistic heritage; the protection of the right to health; the improvement of the quality of life and the promotion of personal rights to prevent and combat phenomena of social hardship; overcoming marginalization through the prevention and removal of situations of need. Purposes that the Committee will pursue through the activities of promotion and enhancement of the environmental, historical and artistic heritage and of the traditional local culture of the territories in which it operates, in parallel with information and awareness-raising activities of citizens on environmental risks, on the degradation of goods and community culture, on the state of public health, also through the organization of events, exhibitions, round tables, conferences, congresses, surveys, seminars, ecological days, laboratories, local development projects; the analysis of the problems and the drafting of proposals on the programming of services of collective interest, for the improvement of the living conditions of the neighborhood from an environmental, social and socio-health point of view, raising awareness, empowering and urging citizens to identify common problems, promoting meeting and discussion with means deemed most suitable such as assemblies, debates, conferences, publications, conventions, cultural initiatives, always bearing in mind that the common good always prevails over the interest of the individual; initiatives to support children, to prevent situations of juvenile hardship and defend the rights of minors, also through collaboration with schools; the organization of sporting, aggregative and social activities in favor of young people and adults at risk of deviance or in conditions of social marginalization, to stem these phenomena and to spread a culture of integration through the organization of events, the creation of youth aggregation centers and sport; the promotion of activities aimed at preventing situations of hardship and giving support and assistance to the elderly, children, families and people in conditions of physical, mental, social and/or economic hardship through accompanying services, listening, distribution of basic necessities, in collaboration with social services; the promotion of activities aimed at encouraging the integration of foreign citizens in an intercultural and exchange perspective, preventing and stemming phenomena of social exclusion. Now, with the transformation into the Noble Mediterranean Academy, the Committee, thanks to its history and successes, wants to operate at the national level, mostly in the Mediterranean area. The work and experience of Giovanna Speranza will be carried on with pride and dedication by the new Council.
